It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mom, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Greta Marie Hillier. Greta passed away Friday, June 29, 2012 in the arms of her loving family after a courageous battle of illness, at the ICU of the CB Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Mill Creek, Bras d’Or, on February 9, 1949, she was the eldest daughter of Theodore and Mary Olive (Pero) Marsh.
Greta is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Carl Hillier; her daughter Paula (Tim), Millville; her son Darryl, her two grandchildren, Aaron and Courtney; her sister, Annie Cox, North Sydney; as well as her many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Greta’s very special friend, Veronica Gove, who she adored and chatted over tea every day.
Besides her parents, Greta was predeceased by two children, Mary Louise and Carl David; by a brother Leonard; brother-in-law, Albert Hillier and sister-in-law, Pastor Mary Kholer.
Greta loved Minor Baseball and Minor Soccer and was one time, President of the North Sydney Figure Skating Club. She adored her grandchildren and lived for her loving family. Her kindness and generosity and that loving smile will ever be remembered by everybody who knew her. Love and kindness was her way of life.
Greta was a member of St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or. She stayed true to her faith even in the most trying times. The most courageous person I’ve ever known. Safe in the arms of Jesus.
Visitation for Greta will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A Celebration of Life and funeral mass to take place 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 4th at St. Joseph Church, Church Road, Bras d’Or, with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.

She was the greatest aunt I could ever ask for. At this time, may you find comfort as her greatness is held in all our hearts. And may her wisdom always live on...
