Darlene Bond Obituary

Darlene Bond

North Sydney

My beautiful Mama lost her 15-year battle with Alzheimer’s on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care (MacDougall Court) in Sydney. She was 70 years old.

Darlene is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, David Bond; her favourite daughter, Wendy Bond (Corey); her two beautiful granddaughters, Lillian and Sarah Brown. She is also survived by her siblings: Normie (Betty) Pye, Carol (Jake) Wall, Ronnie MacLean, Laura Marsh, Michelle (Gordie) Stewart. She is further survived by her in-laws: Linda (Paul) Keeping, Blair Bond, Harry (Brenda) Bond, and Lisa Bond (Sheldon), along with all of her nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Lillian (Pye) MacLean; her brother, Brian MacLean and her sister, Norma Jean Denny; father and mother-in-law David Sr. and Mildred (Courtney) Bond and brother-in-law Barry Marsh.

Over the years, Mom babysat for numerous families, all of whom held a special place in Mom’s heart and she loved them all as if they were her own. She was an avid bowler and dart player and enjoyed heckling her opponents and teammates alike. Her greatest joy was watching myself and her granddaughters dance; she never missed a competition of recital. Mom and Dad always danced the night away at every occasion they went to.

A visitation for Darlene will be held from 1 to 3p.m. on Wednesday, February 21 at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home at 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Diane Kempt officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.  In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.  Online condolences can be sent to the family by writing on the tribute wall of the obituary page.

Dad and I would like to thank Dr. Poulus, Dr. Ferguson, and all the doctors who helped in Mom’s care. Special thanks to the Northside Homemakers Service Society for their care, compassion, and assistance over the years. Finally, immeasurable gratitude is extended to the staff of 4 West of the Northside General Hospital and all the amazing staff in MacDougall Court at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, her home for the last 15 months.

                                                                                                                        Love: Wendy Bond
