Kenneth "Kenny" MacNeil Obituary

Kenneth MacNeil

Christmas Island

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our only brother, Joseph Kenneth MacNeil in his 79th year on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Kenneth was born in Christmas Island, C.B., Nova Scotia, the only son of the late Ambrose and Mary (Delorey) MacNeil of Christmas Island, N.S.

Kenny is survived by his sisters who are devastated by their loss, Mary Clarkin (Wilfred, deceased), North Wiltshire, PEI and Elizabeth "Betty" Seymour (Leon, deceased), Toronto.

Dear uncle to nephews: Patrick, Alan & Philip Clarkin of New Wiltshire, PEI and niece Tracy Lampron, of Windsor, Ontario; numerous grandnieces & grandnephews, four great grand nieces & grandnephews & numerous cousins and relatives.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his eldest sister Teresa & youngest sister Margaret and his second sister Sarah who passed the previous week.

Kenny was in ill health and was pursuing improvement to his health for some time but it was not to be. Kenny was much loved by his family and held the respect and loyalty of both his family & friends. On a regular basis he appreciated and enjoyed Sunday dinner at the home of his MacKenzie cousins.

Kenny was twenty years old when his father passed. He assumed responsibility for the care of his mother in providing an income travelling to Sudbury to Inco. He returned home sometime later to go into trucking working primarily with Nova Scotia Department of Highways and also with other trucking operations.

Kenny was a person of high integrity, generosity, a respectable man with a wonderful sense of humour & could have you smiling & chuckling in the simplest of interaction with him. He enjoyed the genuine friendships of many fellow truckers who returned a lifelong comradery.

Kenny loved all sports, Blue Jays baseball, hockey that he could still accurately provide age old statistics & added football to his sports entertainment.

He also loved his longtime feline companions PussCat (the Boss running the house) & the passive blk/white Missy.

Cremation has taken place and interment will be made at a much later date at St Barra Catholic Cemetery, Christmas Island. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Online condolences may be left for the family by writing on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com .
