It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the sudden passing of Arthur Francis MacDonald, age 92, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on Friday, November 29, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in North Sydney on June 13, 1927, he was the son of the late Alex and Annie (Tobin) MacDonald. In his earlier years, Arthur was a coal miner employed with Indian Cove Coal Company in Sydney Mines. He was a carpenter for 22 years and a member of Local 1588 Carpenters & Joiners Union, working all over Nova Scotia. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending time at his cottage in Aberdeen with his wife Lillian and family.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
Arthur is survived by his loving wife Lillian (LeBlanc) MacDonald, his daughter Veronica (Robert Howatson), North Sydney, his two sons Lawrence (Maudeen) MacDonald, Sydney Mines, Gerard (Colleen) MacDonald, Millville, his six grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Arthur was predeceased by his brother John MacDonald and sister Mildred Davis, brother-in-law Gerald Davis.
Visitation for Arthur will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
