It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Catherine Eunice Tobin age 85, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, on Wednesday September 6, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Catherine was born August 13, 1932 in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Hubert and Elizabeth (McCormick) Boutilier. She lived for many years on Gannon Road, North Sydney. She worked for a number of years at the Alder Point Fish Plant and at the Highland Motel, North Sydney. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney for many years. Our dear mother was a friend to everyone she met. She was always thinking of others and even when feeling poorly would often say “things could be worse”. Her faith in God kept her going through trying times. She loved her family dearly and was not only a wonderful Mom, but grandmother, great grandmother and sister as well. We will miss her and her terrific sense of humor, we enjoyed much laughter with her. Rest in peace sweetheart you deserve it.
Catherine is survived by her children, Theresa (Keith) Bartlett, Sydney Mines, William Tobin Jr., Florence, Kevin (Edna) Tobin, Sydney Mines, Wayne (Nancy) Tobin, Lower Sackville, Blair (Karen) Tobin, North Sydney, by her grandchildren Travis, Kyle, Ryan, Matthew, Taylor, Holly, Erica, Carly, great grandchildren Ella and Molly, her brothers Cecil Boutilier, Sydney Mines, Fred (Bev) Boutilier, Toronto, her sisters Gonie Harrietha, Mill Creek, Mary Hopkins, Toronto, sister-in-law Laverne Boutilier, Sydney Mines, brother-in-law Bernie Tobin, Florence .
Besides her parents Catherine was predeceased by her husband William T. Tobin, brothers John, Billy and Harold Boutilier, a sister Barbara, son-in-law George Whalen , brothers-in-law Ronald Hopkins, Jack Harrietha, Emerson (May) Tobin, Francis (Isabel) Tobin, sisters-in-law Linda Boutilier and Shirley Tobin .
The family would like to thank the Northside Home Care Service, VON, the staff of Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, especially her nurse Taylor for the care and compassion shown to Catherine and the family.
By request there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
