It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cecil Charles Parsons, beloved companion, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, on Saturday April 20, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney on August 2, 1943, Cecil was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Hawley) Parsons. He was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic until his retirement. He was a former recording secretary with the I.L.A. #1259 and the Cape Breton Labour Council, member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for six years and an avid Cape Breton Screaming Eagles fan.
Cecil is survived by his loving companion Regina Cann, a daughter Irene Parsons (Troy), Westmount, sons Cecil (Dawn) Parsons, Joggins, NS, William (Cindy) Parsons, Howie Centre, six grandchildren Nicholas, Connor, Adam, Natalia, Cecil and Alan, sisters Violet Haycox, Valerie Brown, both of North Sydney, Phyllis Yurczyszyn, Frenchvale, Donna Podetz, London, ON, brothers Doug Parsons, Wayne (Sandy) Parsons, Carl Parsons, all of London, ON, Tim (Liz) Parsons, North Sydney.
Besides his parents, Cecil was predeceased by three infant grandchildren Megan, Katie and Sean, his brother Joe, sisters Alice, Darlene, Marie and Bertha.
The family would to thank Dr Marek Knott, Dr. Andrew Wawer, the nurses and staff of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre and Hematology Department at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
The family will greet family and friends between 10-11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. A funeral mass for Cecil will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
