It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cecil Parsons, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle, on Saturday October 7, 2017 at the Northside General Hospital.

Cecil was born in Cul-de-Sac, Newfoundland on July 13, 1923. He was a son of the late John Tom and Naomi (Hardy) Parsons. He went to sea as a fisherman at a very early age and later joined the Royal Navy to serve his country during the Second World War. He was employed with CN Marine aboard the vessels until his retirement.

Cecil was member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church. He will be remembered for his love of children, playing Santa, tinkering with wood projects, boating on the Bras d’Or Lakes , enjoying his cabin near New Campbellton and his other campsites on the lakes. He liked nothing better than to “kick up his heels” to some Newfoundland music.

Cecil is survived by his wife Classie (Keeping), his daughter Jane “Janie” (Dan) Vernon, daughter-in-law Judy (MacDonald) Whitman, step-sons Calvin (Angie) Keeping, Alex (Shirley) Keeping, step-daughter Irene (Roy) Iannetti, he will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Chris, Allison, Adam, Kent, Kim, Denise, Rachel, Michael, Samantha and Sally, also by 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, by his brothers Roy Parsons, Roland (Donna) Parsons, his sisters Flora and Vera, several nieces and nephews.

Cecil was predeceased by his first wife Beattie Parsons, his son Marty Parsons, his brothers Joe, Harry, George, his sisters Gladys, Mildred, Flossie, Mary and Dorothy.

Visitation for Cecil will be held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the W. J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Julio Martin officiating. Burial to follow at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
