It is with sadness that we announce the passing of David William Johnston, age 90, on Friday November 3, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, following a brief illness.

David was born in Little Bras d’Or, September 6, 1927, he was a son of the late Charles and Annabel (MacKenzie) Johnston. David graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and operated Springfield Farm on Johnston Road all of his life.

David is survived by a brother Gordon Johnston, Georges River, sister-in-law Patricia (late John) Johnston, his chosen family Danny O’Handley, nephews David (Rose) Johnston, William (Jennifer) Johnston and seven grand nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers John Johnston and Wilbert Johnston, sister-in-law Kaye (MacLeod) Johnston.

Visitation for David will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday, November 18th in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney, followed by words of remembrance. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or to a charity of choice.
