It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Sarah Doreen “Debbie” Deveau, aged 69, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, on Friday November 15, 2019, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney NS, December 28, 1949, Debbie was the daughter of the late Manuel Swan and Norah Sullivan. Debbie was employed at Zellers, North Sydney, for over 20 years until illness forced her to retire. She was a member of St. Joseph Church
Debbie is survived by husband, Michael, who were married on November 14, 1970 and celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary one day prior to her passing. She is also survived by her three children: Michael (Kathleen) Deveau, Glace Bay, Susan Deveau, at home, Paul Deveau, Athabasca AB; three grandchildren: Michael, Terra, and Ethan; brothers: Sheldon (Peggy) Steele, Dartmouth, Billy Steele, Oshawa ON; half-sister Rodena (Brian) Bell, Smith Falls ON; sister in law Michelle (Stephen) LeMoine, Sydney Mines; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Debbie was predeceased by her adopted parents: Elmer and Susie Steele; a brother: Hughie Steele; sister in law: Rosella Steele; her father and mother-in-law: Joseph and Anna Deveau; brother in law: Manuel Deveau.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Kirkpatrick, Dr. Alexander Wawer, the nursing staff of the 5th and 2nd floor at the Northside General Hospital for the excellent care provided during Debbie’s illness over the last number of months.
Visitations for Debbie will be held Wednesday, November 20, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, at W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney NS. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 am Thursday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
