It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Ella Jean Clarke, age 96, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at the Northside General Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Neil’s Harbour on May 7, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Alice Maude (Fricker) Rideout.  She is the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by her son Eric (Shirleen), daughters Sandra (Harold) Cuff, Jean (Reid MacKay) and Donna (John O’Brien); her 8 grandchildren Eric, Tim, Stephen, Shauna, Heather, Wendy, Adam and Dean; her 6 great-grandchildren Katie, Jordan, Riley, Jack, Marleigh and Evan.  She is also survived by her brother-in-law Conrad (Bish) Clarke and sister-in-law Shirley Clarke, nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Ella was predeceased by her husband Howard “Howdie” Clarke, infant daughter Patricia, her sisters Irene Clark, Mildred Seymour, Hattie Fricker, Gladys Foss and by brothers Tim and Cecil, sister-in-law Margie MacDonald, brother-in-law Bob Clarke.

There will be no visitation or funeral service by request.  Friends and family are invited to gather at her home from 2-4 p.m. on Friday.  A private family burial will be held in Lakeside Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Giles Presbyterian Church, North Sydney. 

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
