It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother Gladys Mary Covin, age 86, on Thursday October 4, 2018 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care (St. Anne’s Bay), Sydney NS where she had resided since April of 2017.
Gladys was born in North Sydney on March 21, 1932, where she resided until December of 1990 when she moved to British Columbia to live with her son David and family. She eventually returned to her Cape Breton “home” in 2015 with her daughter Cathy and son-in-law Phonse.
Gladys is survived by her son David (Linda), Abbotsford, BC; daughter Catherine (Phonse) MacDonald, Sydney Mines ; brother Ches (Sis) Power, Ottawa, Ontario; grandchildren Cathy, Aldergrove, BC; Don (Tammy), Abbotsford, BC and great grandchildren Abigail and Sam; cousins Don (Carol Anne) Power; Joe (Jean) Fiander and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Leo Covin; parents Wallace and Ada (Kinslow) Power; siblings Rose and Leo.
Special note of thanks to the Northside Home Makers for the excellent care given to mom prior to her entering the nursing home. To the caring and compassionate staff at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, St. Anne’s Bay, we cannot thank you enough for the loving care and attention given to mom. You all became her second family and helped her through a very difficult time. Special mention to Josie who was mom’s cohort in badness. They shared many good times and were known to some of us as “Thelma and Louise”.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral mass will be held 10 am Tuesday, October 9th at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
