Gordon Alden MacLeod
North Sydney
It is with sadness we announce the passing of our dear son, brother, uncle and friend, Gordon MacLeod, on Saturday, November 25, 2017.
Born in North Sydney he was the son of Alden MacLeod and the late Elizabeth (Evans) MacLeod.
Gord worked as a labourer in Alberta, was a member of Local 92 and was a recent graduate of METI safety program in Sydney. He was very musical and was happiest playing his guitar. Gord had a great sense of humour and was always able to make people laugh.
Gord is survived by his father, Alden MacLeod, North Sydney; by his sister Nancy MacLeod (Jeff Fader), Wellington, NS, his brother, Paul (Christine) MacLeod of Waterloo, Ontario, by his two nieces, Sydney and Calista and his Aunt Lorraine Hunt.
Also left to mourn are a group of men, former boys, from the Northside area. “The Boys” and Gord spent a large portion of their youth congregated in a small wood framed shed on the corner of Gisborne Street and Meech Avenue in North Sydney effectively known as “The Barn”. Activities that occurred within its confines included everything from basic carpentry to a pay to enter haunted house, egg hatchery, band rehearsal space and some low-level gambling. Upon hearing of Gord’s passing, a card game was quickly organized and held in his honor. Out of respect for the “Top Dog” no Russian Poker was played.
Besides his mother Elizabeth, Gord was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Horace and Gertie Reid, maternal grandparents Gerald and Dorcas Evans and Uncle Terry Evans.
Visitation for Gord will be on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Calvin United Church Cemetery, Upper Leitches Creek.
