It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Harold Joseph Cox, age 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, on Monday, July 9, 2018 at the Northside General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Sydney Mines on July 30, 1928, Harold was the son of the late Richard and Martha (Confiant) Cox.   He was employed for a number of years as a taxi driver and also a truck driver.  Harold was a mechanic who enjoyed tinkering and working on old cars.  He loved playing pool and cards next door in his son Doug’s garage. He had a great love for his cats and travelling to Newfoundland with his wife Jane in their camper.  Harold was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.

He is survived by his wife Jane (Peddle) Cox, his sons Doug (Donna) Cox, North Sydney, Clifford (Donna) Cox, Sydney, Kenny (Patricia) Cox, North Sydney, his daughter Lynn (John) MacKinnon, North Sydney; six grandchildren, Chris, Ryan, Samantha, Amy, Gina, Terri Lynn, four great-grandchildren Layla, Alex, Austin and Chloe; his brothers Dave (Nellie) Cox, John Cox, both of North Sydney, Clifford (Cathy) Cox, Grand Prairie, Michael Cox, Cape Cod, his sister Marion MacKinnon, Sydney, many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Harold was predeceased by his sisters Ella, Caroline, Irene, brothers Louis and Robert sisters-in-law Dora, Shirley and Mary, two infant brothers and three infant sisters.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff on 4 East at the Northside General Hospital for the excellent care given to our dad. 

Visitation for Harold will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church.  Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.  Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
