It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt and friend, Margaret “Margie” MacNeil, age 84, on Friday, June 8, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born in North Sydney on September 30, 1933, Margie was the daughter of the late Emmanuel and Mary Jane (Gaulton) Gallop.  She worked at the Keltic Lodge in Ingonish for many years.  Margie’s greatest joy was her grandson Dante.  She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.

Margie is survived by her only daughter Janie (Trevor) MacLennan, her pride and joy, her only grandson Dante Emmanuel MacLennan, her sister Marcella Gillis, North Sydney, her special niece Marlene (James) Bona, North Sydney, her three nephews David (Sue) Gillis, Sherbrooke, Tom (Ann Marie) Gillis, Mississauga and Kevin (Ruth Ann) Gillis, North Sydney and several grand nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her special friend Rosie Collier and special friends the Dolomont family and “her other daughter” Linda Gordon.

Besides her parents, Margie was predeceased by her husband Roderick MacNeil and longtime friend Bridget Fudger.

There will be no visitation by request.  A funeral service for Margie will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. on Monday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Julio Martin officiating.  Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
