Marguerite Hatcher Obituary

Marguerite Hatcher

North Sydney

It is with great sadness and heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Marguerite Hatcher, on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at the age of 86. Marguerite passed away suddenly at home and will be lovingly missed by her son George (Kim) and granddaughters Emily and Georgina.

She is also survived by loving nieces and nephews as well as many dear and special friends.

Born in North Sydney, Marguerite was the daughter of the late Nathan Thomas and Emily (Marsden) Hatcher of North Sydney.  Marguerite offered her love through feeding her family on special occasions and regular Sunday dinners. She carefully passed her cooking and baking skills on to her grandchildren, making meticulous efforts to provide them with favorite recipes.

Marguerite was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in North Sydney and had been active in the Girl Guides of Canada movement throughout her life. Marguerite had worked for Sears for many years, retiring at age seventy.

She was predeceased by her husband George Melvin Hatcher in 2017; by her sisters, Pearl Schofield, Theresa Lillian Baird, Mildred Hatcher and Shirley Stychyshyn; half-sister, Leah Amelia Crew; brothers, Harold Hatcher, Raymond Hatcher, Arthur Hatcher and Nathan Hatcher; half-brothers, James Hubert Hatcher and Wilfred Hatcher.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all those who provided care and comfort to Marguerite during times of need. For the excellent care provided by Dr. William MacDonald and the Northside Homemakers, whose invaluable support allowed her to stay in her home.

Visitation for Marguerite will be 7-9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Doug Beck officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
