It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rosella MacDonald, age 98, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great-grandmother on Tuesday September 12, 2017 at the Northside Community Guest Home.

Born in North Sydney on July 1, 1919, Rosella was a daughter of the late Harold and Elizabeth (McCarthy) Bennett. She was a beautiful lady who was very proud of how she kept her home and garden at 24 Waterview Dr, Sydney Mines. Her world revolved around her family especially her children and grandchildren. She was a former member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines and a longtime member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church, North Sydney.

Rosella is survived by her daughter Rosella (George) Shaddock, Halifax, her son Harold MacDonald, Dartmouth, by 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband John MacDonald in 1989, by her son Liam MacDonald, great-granddaughter Danielle, brothers Stephen and Austin Bennett, sisters Lena Courage and Hilda MacKinnon.

The family would like to thank Dr. Eugene Ignacio and the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home for the wonderful care given to Rosella during her stay there.

Visitation for Rosella will be held 2-4 p.m. Friday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Prayers will follow in the Funeral Home with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to the MS Society or Canadian Diabetic Association.
