Ronald Eavis Obituary

Ronald Earl Eavis

North Sydney

We, the family of Ron Eavis, age 77, are saddened to announce the passing of our husband, father, brother and uncle on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the Irish Cove wing of Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility.

Born in North Sydney on August 6, 1941, Ron was the son of Clayton and Margaret (Strickland) Eavis.  Back in the day, Dad was an avid fisherman and hunter.  Many happy days were spent roaming the woods of Middle River with his brothers.  He also loved watching hockey and sharing a cup of coffee with his Tim Hortons buddies while getting the “scoop around town”.  Ron was a member of Local 682 Pipefitters Union and his profession allowed him to travel to various places across the country for work.

He is survived by his wife, Joan (Quirk), son Ronnie Eavis (Michelle), his brothers Phil (Karen) Eavis and Tom Eavis, sister-in-law Bonnie, many cousins, nieces and nephews as well as close friends Glen Knott, Vince Garnier and Flossie Oakes.

Besides his parents, Dad was predeceased by brothers Cyril and Buddy Eavis and sister-in-law Yvonne Eavis.

Dad loved a good joke and to get people going, but the twinkle in his eye always gave him away.  Even though during recent years his health required the need for long term care, the wonderful staff at Harbourstone Enhanced Care (Irish Cove wing) never treated Dad like a patient or a resident; instead, they treated him like family, and for that we are eternally grateful.

At the family’s request, there will be no visitation.  Cremation has taken place and a service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel with Diane Kempt, DLM officiating.  Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of NS or a charity of choice.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.
