It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother William Meaney, age 78, on Friday April 19, 2019 at the Northside General Hospital.

Born in North Sydney on March 21, 1941, William was the son of the late James and Gertrude (McGean) Meaney. In his younger years William worked at the St. Elizabeth Hospital, North Sydney, the Nova Scotia Hospital, Dartmouth, later moving to Montreal where he worked at many jobs while pursuing a modeling career. He then lived in Venezuela for over thirty years where he owned and operated a modeling agency. He returned home to North Sydney about three years ago.

William is survived by his sisters Thelma Meaney and Teresa Meaney, North Sydney, his brothers Joseph Meaney (Janice Stagg), North Sydney, Michael (Regina) Meaney, Georges River, sister-in-law Lori Meaney, Sydney Mines, also by a number of nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, William was predeceased by his brother Jim Meaney, sister Mary (Russell) O’Connell, niece Nicole Meaney, sister-in-law Joan Meaney.

The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Poulos, the nurses and staff of 4th and 5th floors at the Northside General Hospital, the palliative care team and volunteers, Deacon Roy Smith and Deacon Greg Murphy for their visits and Betty Roberts for visiting and bringing home baked treats.

By request there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J.
