Alexander Buglar Obituary

Alexander I. Buglar

North Sydney

With heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Alexander Isaac Buglar, age 85 on Sunday, March 22 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born in Harbour Breton, Newfoundland on July 17, 1934, he was the son of the late George and Sarah (Moore) Buglar.  Alex left his home in Newfoundland at an early age to begin a long career at sea.  Starting on the Aspy III, he worked his way from deckhand to chief engineer.  He then went on to work on the M.V. Clyde before finishing his career on the ferry on Bell Island, just outside St. John’s, Newfoundland. He enjoyed his retirement spending time in Iona with Mom and their four- legged pal Tucker.  Alex was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.

Alex is survived by his four children, Cathy (Calvin) Hann, Sydney, Harold (Lynn) Buglar, North Sydney, Karen (Frank) Black, North Sydney, Brian (Kim) Buglar, Gibbons, AB; also by his 7 grandchildren, his sister Mabel Benoit, North Sydney, sisters-in-law Agnes Hogan and Helen Buglar, his nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Alex was predeceased by his wife of 63 years Margaret (Murphy) Buglar in 2019, his son Bruce Buglar, sister Lottie (Richard) Vallis, his brother Clayton Buglar, brothers-in-law Fred Benoit and John Murphy.

There will be no visitation by request.  A private graveside service for Alex will be held at a later date with Rev. Douglas Beck officiating.  Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Cancer Centre, the Heart & Stroke Foundation or St. John the Baptist Anglican Church.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.
