Alexander “Alex” Spicer

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Alexander “Alex” Spicer, age 73, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on Monday August 17, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in North Sydney, November 25, 1946, Alex was the son of the late Leslie and Flora (Blagdon) Spicer. Throughout his life Alex worked various jobs, as a Fish Plant worker with H.B. Nickerson & Sons and National Sea Products, aboard the harbour pilot boats, also a number of years with Coastal Construction, later was a member of International Labourers Union, travelling to western Canada for work prior to his retirement. He enjoyed playing cards and darts.

Alex is survived by his wife Avalene (Munden) Spicer, son Blair (Trina) Spicer, North Sydney, daughter Rhonda (Stephen) Dasilva, Pickering, ON, his three grandchildren Griffin, Jalen and Raiya, sister Phyllis Reno, brother Freeman Spicer, both of North Sydney, a number of nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Delores (Gary) Bond, Newfoundland, Mildred (Garfield) Francis, Dartmouth.

Besides his parents Alex was predeceased by a brother Terry Taylor, his in-laws William and Ella May Munden, sisters-in-law Diane Munden and Louise Spicer, brother-in-law Wayne Reno.

By request there will be no visitation. A funeral service for family and close friends will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 24th at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney with Rev. Douglas Beck officiating.  Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Nova Scotia Department of Health protocols requires the wearing of masks and social distancing will be followed. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. 

Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
