Alice Louise Crant
Florence, NS
It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of long-time Florence, NS resident, Alice Crant, age 66, loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, on Sunday, June 20, 2021 with her family by her side.
Born in Truro, she was the youngest daughter of the late John and Ali (Hop) van Dyken. Alice worked for many years with Great Bras d’Or Rainwear Limited in Sydney Mines. She later joined the dietary staff at Harbourstone Enhanced Care in Sydney, where she remained until her retirement. Alice was a talented crafter who spent many long hours combing local beaches with her fur baby and constant companion Zoey, searching for sea glass to make her creations.
Alice had a big impact on those around her, her friends and in her community. She had an infectious laugh that made everyone around her instantly happy. She loved spending time with her family and especially adored her grandchildren. She was a strong woman with a big personality and will be dearly missed by those blessed and lucky enough to have known her.
Alice is survived by her daughter Genevieve (Adam) Read; her son John Crant and her two grandchildren, Adelle and Jamie Read all of Nerepis, NB. Also surviving are her siblings Henderika (Ricky) de Groot and Lineke Lemieux.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jim Crant and a sister, Aldertina “Alma” Shea.
There will be no visitation by request. A private graveside service will take place at a later date in Elmsdale, NS. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant., North Sydney, NS. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
