It is with deep sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of Alistair “Al” Wilson at the impressive age of 95, on Saturday July 26, 2025 in the An Cala unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his family by his side.
Born in Sydney, January 8, 1930, Al was the eldest son of the late Andrew “Andy” and Catherine (Bodie) Wilson. In his younger years he enjoyed sports, was an active church member and an active Mason in Royal Albert Masonic Lodge #19 AF & AM. Al was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines.
He was an unfailingly kind, loyal, and loving husband to his late wife Joan, father to his three children Kevin and Alison of North Sydney and Brenda (Myke) Lindsay, Montana, grandfather to his two grandchildren Andrew (Cheryl) Vassallo and Tanya (Justin) Cashin and four great grandchildren; Piper and Cole Vassallo, Nora and Alistair Cashin. He is survived by a sister-in-law Margie MacDonald, Sydney and several nieces and nephews.
A true gentleman, Dad’s passing leaves a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.
In addition to his parents Al was predeceased by his wife Joan (Haggett) in 2012 by his brothers Charlie and Angus (Florence) Wilson.
On Dad’s behalf we would like to thank Dr. Sarah Mader, his family physician and all the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Geriatric Clinic and Renal Clinic for their care over the last fifteen months. To the EMTs, doctors and nurses of the ER and An Cala for his wonderful care and the care of the family over the last week.
A graveside service for Alistair will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Donations in Al’s memory may be made to Cape Breton Hospice Palliative Care or a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the W.J.
