It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Amy Elizabeth Carter, age 91, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Port Aux Basques, NL on October 12, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Amy (Hatcher) Blackmore. In her earlier years she worked as a telephone operator in Newfoundland until she married and then moved to North Sydney. When her children were older, Elizabeth went to work at Peoples Store, which she really enjoyed but she had to retire early due to her eyesight. Elizabeth was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
Left to mourn are her children, Debbie (Blair) Forrest, North Sydney, Clayton (Linda) Carter, New Campbellton, her grandchildren Amy, Christopher, Michelle, Erin, Deanna, seven great-grandchildren and her step-grandchild Shannon Forrest. Also surviving is her sister Marguerite White, NL, her brothers Gordie Blackmore, NL, Winston Blackmore, Halifax. She will be remembered by her good friend Ellen Anderson and all the walks they shared over the years.
She was predeceased by her husband Clayton Carter, her son Jimmy, her sister Lillian, her brothers George, Jack, Richard and Gerald.
There will be no visitation by request. A private graveside service will be held at a later date under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society or a charity of choice.
