It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather, Andrew William "Billy" LeBlanc on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the Northside Community Guest Home.. Born on September 30th, 1939 in Alder Point, Papa was the 2nd oldest son of Andrew and Catherine (Laffin) LeBlanc.
Mourning this immense loss is his wife of 64 years Aldric (Gillis) LeBlanc, his four children: Lori (John), Yvette (Bernie), Shaun (Alexis) Perry (Annette) and cherished grandchildren Holly (Tracy), Kelly (Lindsey) Alicia (Mike), Katie (Adam), Laine (Nick), Mitchell, Hailey (Ramy), Kyle (Georgia) and great grandchildren: Avery James, Gregory, Gwendolyn, Brody, Easton, Cameron, Oaklen and Finlay. Also left to mourn are sisters: Patsy (Butch), Madonna, Mary (Lawrence), Linda (Frank), Heather, Karen (Richard), Donica (Eric); brothers: Tommy, Danny, Ronnie (Pat), Kevin (Jeanette), Darrell (Laura).
Papa was predeceased by infant son William; sisters Sharon and Lois; brother-in-law Cyril; sisters-in-law, Louise and Lorraine; and grandson Logan LeBlanc.
As an active member of St. Anne’s Parish and long-standing participant of the Alder Point Choir, Papa was a man who put his faith above all, and held true to this until the end. Papa was born with a love of mechanics and salt water, in his veins. He graduated from Nova Scotia Community College obtaining his Diploma in Diesel Mechanics. In his younger years, he sailed the Great Lakes and worked on Gypsum vessels. He would often tell us stories about his sailing adventures and his work that allowed him to travel and see the different parts of the world, which he loved.
Later, he continued a career on the water working as a commercial fisherman which was a job he loved and spoke about until his final days. Life on the water was just like a magnet, drawing him back once again as started a 6-year term with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as an auxiliary member and vessel Captain of their Search & Rescue team. Known as a great diesel mechanic, in his ‘free time’ he would help the local fishermen repair their boat engines, which allowed him to be on a wharf, near the water; to him, there was nothing better.
If you knew Papa, you would know his love for Christmas was immense. From midnight mass, decorating and cooking the turkey, he was the center of our Christmas celebrations. He’d be louder than the kids asking “when can we open presents”? When we’re listing to his favourite carols as we decorate our trees this year, he’ll be our angel on top.
Our family would like to express our heartfelt love and gratitude to all staff at the Northside Community Guest Home, especially those working on Teresa Terrace. The compassion and care shown to both Nan and Papa during the last 3 years has been nothing short of amazing.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, August 20, at St. Anne Church in Alder Point. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bras D’Or. All are welcome to attend a reception at Alder Point Hall. Donations may be made to the Northside Community Guest Home, Teresa Terrace or St. Anne’s Church.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Family flowers only. Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall at www.wjdooley.com
