It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Anna “Annie” Elizabeth O’Handley, age 85, on Monday, May 23, 2022 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born in Sydney Mines on February 17, 1937, Annie was the daughter of the late Robert and Olive (MacKeigan) Pickles.  She was a member of St. Joseph Church in North Sydney.

Annie is survived by her loving husband James, her sons James Jr, North Sydney, John, Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Donnie, North Sydney; her daughter Judy O’Handley, Sydney Mines; her grandchildren Crystal, John, Olivia and Catherine; her great-grandchildren Cameron, Keigan, John Koen and Paislie, also her nieces and nephews. 

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her daughter Cathy O’Handley, her brothers Eldon and Jimmy Pickles, her sisters Shirley Carruthers and Emily Cornford.

The family would like to thank the Northside Community Guest Home, the staff of the Cardiac Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, especially nurses Kate and Jennifer for the excellent care given to Annie and also Father Paul MacGillivary and Rev. Stephen Mills.

Visitation for Annie will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
