Anne Marie (Williams) Hopkins

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend – Anne Marie Hopkins, on June 4, 2025 at the age of 85.

Born in Florence on April 6, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Vivian (Reashore) Williams. Anne Marie was proud to say that she graduated as a Registered Nurse from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1968 and went on to work for many years in Nova Scotia, Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario, where she was the Director of Nursing at Mountain Nursing Home in Hamilton. She was a humble person of simple pleasures who loved nothing more in life than her cats, her garden, bird watching, and most especially her beloved grandson, James.

Anne Marie is survived by her son, Roy (Nancy) Gardiner, and her daughter, Erin Hopkins; grandson, James (Pyrrha) and great-grandchildren, Cora and Logan; her sister, Vee (Johnny) Pye, along with several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Michael Gardiner; her sister, Flo (Langelle) Pero; her first husband, Albert Gardiner, and her second husband, Fred Hopkins.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home at 107 Pleasant St. in North Sydney. There will be no service at this time. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Anne Frances D’intino and the entire staff at Hospice Cape Breton for their excellent care and compassion, and further encourage donations to be made there in Anne Marie’s memory.
