Born in Bras d’Or on July 12, 1918, Peggy was the youngest of nine children to her parents the late William and Florence (Foster) Clifford. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John H. Carey, a teenage daughter Kathleen, two daughters in infancy, grandson, John Carey and a daughter-in-law Edith, sisters; Florence King, Dollie Muggah and Daisy Todd, brothers; Vince, William, Ernest, Harry and Leslie Clifford.

Peggy is survived by her daughters; Anne M. (John) Camp, Arnprior, Ontario, Faith (Kim) Lantz, Sydney River, sons; John W. (Beezer) Carey, North Sydney and Kevin P. Mom was a dedicated member of St. Joseph Parish, Bras d’Or, a choir member and first President of the Catholic Women’s League. Although Mom had many hobbies and talents, she got the most joy from painting scenic Cape Breton and its historical sites. She was also a talented musician and played multiple instruments.

The family extends its gratitude to the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home for the care mom received during her stay; especially her special angels who cared for her on a daily basis and to Dr. Peter Poulos.

There will be no visitation at mom’s request. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Chinonso Alaribe presiding.
