Annie Hardy Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Annie Lorna (Dolomount) Hardy, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Annie passed away peacefully, at 91 years old, on Sunday, September 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories.

Born in Port aux Basques, Newfoundland on November 25,1933, Annie grew up in Rose Blanche, where she formed lifelong friendships and developed her deep love of learning. Education was always close to her heart, and she followed that passion, attending Memorial University of Newfoundland for her degree in teaching.

She went on to share her education as an English teacher, for a short time, and touched the lives of many young students.

In 1953, Annie married the love of her life, Roland “Rolie” Hardy, and together they built a life in North Sydney, that was rooted in devotion, laughter, and the love of family. Annie was blessed with her greatest joy—her son, Robert on her birthday the following year—a gift she treasured every day of her life.

Many of Annie’s fondest memories were of summers spent in Humes River at the “Campsite”, surrounded by many friends and family. The cabin became a place where everyone was met with open arms and a welcome smile.

Friendship was an important cornerstone in Annie’s life, so much so that her cherished “birthday group” of ladies, of which she was the last surviving member, met faithfully to celebrate each others birthday in elaborate fashion, for many years.

Annie was also well known for her many years of service, volunteering with revenue Canada, helping seniors prepare income tax returns. She was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, in North Sydney, a member of the Alter Guild, and Married couples, along with her husband Rolie.

A woman of quiet strength and deep thought, Annie “Nan” along with her baby brother Ron, had a lifelong love of poetry. She passed this passion on to Robert, and together they shared countless moments reciting poems, often trading lines back and forth. Even in the days leading up to her passing, Annie’s memory and love of verse shone brightly, as she would finish the lines when Robert paused—an enduring reminder of the unbreakable bond they shared.

Annie’s warmth, generosity, and gentle spirit were felt by all who knew her. She found her greatest happiness in her family, whether as a proud mother, doting grandmother, or adoring great-grandmother.

She was predeceased her beloved husband, Roland Hardy, by her parents, James and Mary-Ann Dolomount, her brother Gerald Dolomount (Ignatia), her sister Gloria Allen, in-laws John and Mary Hardy, her brothers-in-law Alex (Diane), and Bob, and her honorary grandson Patrick.

Left to celebrate her memory are her son Robert Hardy (Judy); her grandchildren Tanya (Chad) and Robbie (Molly); and her great-grandchildren Brighton and Cameron Hardy. She will also be deeply missed by her brother Ron Dolomount (Eudevilla), her many nieces and nephews, Mary, Paula, George, Mark, Jamie, Bradley, Renee, Scott and Jeffrey, Gregor and Mary-Beth, and the Neil family children, whom she held as close as her own family.

Annie’s family takes comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with her loved ones who went before her and that her gentle soul is at peace. She will be remembered always for her unwavering love, her quiet grace, and her ability to make everyone around her feel special and cared for.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Taigh Solas who always treated Annie with the care and compassion of family. We would also like to thank Dr. John Kirkpatrick, Dr. Alexander Wawer, and the doctors and nurses at the An Cala unit at the Cape Breton Regional hospital.

Visitation for Annie will be held from 7-9 pm on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025 in the W.J Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Thursday, Sept. 25 at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Canon Reg MacDonald officiating, reception to follow. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney, following the service.
