Ashley Sheffield Obituary

Ashley Jean Sheffield

Halifax/North Sydney

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing our dear wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Ashley Sheffield and her unborn son, on Monday, September 23, 2019 in Dartmouth, at the age of 33.

Born on July 6, 1986, she was a daughter of Ed and Marni (MacQueen) Sheffield.

Ashley grew up in North Sydney and graduated from Memorial High School. She went on to attend Mount Allison University and graduated with her BA degree. She moved to Toronto to pursue a Bachelor of Social Work from Ryerson (where she met her soulmate Mike), and the University of Toronto with an Advanced Masters of Social work.

She had been employed as a social worker with Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto and just recently moved back to Nova Scotia to be closer to home, settling in Dartmouth, where she enjoyed working in the NIC unit at the IWK hospital as well as the OSI clinic in Burnside. Her special attention to her client families and their needs, earned her the respect of not only those families, but her peers and co-workers as well.

Ashley was a very happy and loving person who made friends quickly and enjoyed helping others. She was an avid volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society both in Toronto and Halifax. She had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed travelling with her husband and soul mate Michael. They were looking forward to their next adventure and were very excited about becoming parents. Family was very important to her and she loved being an aunt to her nephews and nieces, especially her nephew Cooper whom she was very close to.

Ashley is survived by her parents Ed and Marni Sheffield, North Sydney; by her loving husband Michael Murphy, Dartmouth; her two sisters, Lori Sheffield-Bowles (James Bowles), Fredericton, NB and Amanda (Jim) Donato, Sydney Mines; father-in-law, Dr. Charles Murphy (Suzanne Jarvis), Collingwood, ON; sisters-in-law, Shannon Murphy, Toronto, Charlene Murphy, London, England, Charlotte Murphy, Halifax; brother-in-law, Phillip (Emily) Murphy, Rochester, New York; nephews, Cooper, Charles, Edward, Andrew, James; nieces, Maria and Sophia;  paternal grandmother, Lorraine Newman, North Sydney; aunts, Beth (Keith) MacIsaac, Sandra MacQueen, both of Sydney Mines, Norma (Paul) Gale, North Sydney; uncle, Foster (Karen) Sheffield of Halifax and her fur baby “Ingo”.

She was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Dr. Susan Stephenson, paternal grandfather, Barry Sheffield, maternal grandparents, Mary and Norman MacQueen and uncle John MacQueen.

Visitation for Ashley will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Wesley United Church North Sydney, with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.  Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com
