It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Aubrey Henry Clarke age 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, on Tuesday November 24, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by family.

Born in North Sydney, February 7, 1938, Aubrey was the son of the late George and Freda (Standing) Clarke. He was employed with Marine Atlantic in North Sydney for 47 years until his retirement. Aubrey was a man of strong mind and body, he enjoyed competitive power-lifting, he was an avid chess player and member of the Chess Federation of Canada, spent many hours playing crib and tarabish, loved working outside in his yard, he loved to tell stories and had a great sense of humour. Most of all Aubrey loved spending time with his family.

Aubrey is survived by his wife Phyllis (Ransome), his children Victor (Ella), Edmonton, Derrick (Lynn), Taber, AB, David (Stacey), Bridgewater, his seven grandchildren Aiden, Annika, Britney, Bryden, Aaron, Jason and Jessica; his sister Pearl (Joe) Hillier, North Sydney, sisters-in-law Pat Clarke, Diane Clarke, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son Grant and an infant son, sister Mae (John) McCarthy, brothers Jack and Ray Clarke.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the AnCala Palliative Care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their care and compassion shown to Aubrey and our family.

There will be no visitation, a funeral service for Aubrey will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
