It is with heavy hearts, we the family of Barbara Herridge (Whitty) inform you of her passing, at the age of 76, after a short but courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at home with her loving family by her side.

Barbara was born in Ingonish on August 26, 1945 to the late Rachael (Donovan) and Thomas Whitty.

Mom is survived by her loving children Robert (Frenchvale), David (Lisa) Little Pond, Albert (Priscilla), Bonnie (Jackie), both of North Sydney, Roger (Shannon) Sydney Mines, Nancy (DJ), Alder Point, her daughter-in-law Josephine Herridge, Sydney Mines.

She loved dearly her 22 grandchildren, including one grandson Tyler, who always had a special place in her heart, as well as 32 great-grandchildren.  A special bond was held with her sisters Eileen Hawley, Ingonish, Gertrude Whitty and Evangeline Hawley, North Sydney and sister-in-law Vangie Herridge, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. 

Besides her parents, mom was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years Murdock, son Allan, brother Thomas Whitty, sisters Leona Landry, Edna Whitty, Cecilia Farr and daughter-in-law Debbie Herridge.

She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.  She loved her Tuesday night card games, playing bingo and a good cup of tea.  She was always a stay at home mom to her seven children and also a foster mom to children in need, where she provided child care to numerous families in her younger years.

We would like to thank Dr Alexander Wawer, staff at the Cape Breton Regional and Northside General Hospital, Palliative Care, V.O.N. and her niece Connie for providing her with in-home care.

Visitation for Barbara will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 pm, Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating.  Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.  Online condolences can be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com.   

We now know dad is finally at peace with mom by his side!
