Barbara LeMoine Obituary

Barbara LeMoine

North Sydney

With heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Barbara Ann LeMoine, age 88, on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at the Northside Community Guest Home.

Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Daum) Jackson.   Barbara spoke many times of her special relationship with her grandfather Poppa Gus and her aunt Lena. Barbara took a great amount of pride in being an accomplished, licensed practical nurse and worked at Harbourview Hospital in Sydney Mines and Saugus General Hospital in Massachusetts. Barb met her loving husband of fifty-one years, Hudson, in Saugus. They lived and worked in Saugus, eventually returning to North Sydney with their three sons in 1971, where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Barbara was a very involved and active community member. She was a faithful and devoted member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church North Sydney. For many years she sang in the choir and was a hard-working member of the ACW.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Munro Chapter #26, serving in many positions including Worthy Matron. She volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney. She loved being a member of TOPS, the North Sydney Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club as well as the “Coffee Girls.” Barb was very well respected and had many life-long friendships. She will be forever remembered for her vitality, kindness, compassion and good sense of humour.

She is survived by her sons Ken (Donna), Halifax, Ted (Stacey), North Sydney, her five grandchildren Zachery (Joanne), Jessica (Stan), Arianna, Hudson, Vivienne, her four great-grandchildren Lily, Anthony, Charlie, Mika; daughter-in-law, Gina, Halifax; her brothers Richard, Michigan, Neil, Daniel and Wayne, all of Massachusetts; her sister Gail Campbell, Nevada; special “sons” Ian Gunn, Ian MacLean, Tony Fernandez, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Hudson, her son Scott, her brothers John “Lenny”, Charlie, James, Robert, David “Ronald” and Gary.

Thank you to Dr. Paul Hickey, Northside Homemakers, VON, nurses and staff at Taigh Solas in the Northside General Hospital and her final home, the Northside Community Guest Home, for their excellent and loving care for our mom.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions a private graveside committal service was held at Lakeside Cemetery with Rev. Douglas Beck officiating. A memorial service and celebration of Barb’s life will be arranged for a later date.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
