Bernard "Bernie" Boutilier Obituary

Bernie Boutilier

North Sydney

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Bernard Francis Boutilier, age 85, on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in North Sydney on October 13, 1937, Bernie was the eldest son of Joseph “Duke” and Mary “Babe” (MacDonald) Boutilier.

In his younger years, Bernie was employed by LeMoine’s Grocery. He would eventually leave that job to fulfill his passion of becoming a fireman with the North Sydney Fire Department. From there he would eventually become a police officer with the North Sydney Police Department in 1966 until a work-related injury would force Bernie into retirement from the force. He was a proud, lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 19 in North Sydney.

Left to mourn his loss is his wife Lynette (Walters) Boutilier; his sons Gary (Petrina) and Bernie Joe (Bernadette); grandchildren Baillie (Michael), Brittany (Nelson) and Michael; step granddaughters Samantha and Kelsey; great-grandchildren Simon and Annalyse; brother Butchie, sister Valerie (John) Sobol, and sister-in-law Sharon, along with many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Bernie was predeceased by his granddaughter Courtney Lynn in infancy, as well as his sister Joanne and his brothers Donnie and Wayne.

“Bernie we will miss you terribly and may you rest in peace. Until we meet again, we devote our love to you forever.”

There will be no visitation.  A funeral mass will be held for Bernie at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
