It is with broken hearts, we the family of Bernard (Bernie) Vincent Dearing, announce his passing on August 19, 2024 at the age of 62.
Bernie was born on July 21, 1962 to his loving parents Earl and Joan (Carter) Dearing, and is survived by his true love Theresa MacLean. Left to mourn are his mother Joan, his beautiful daughter Shelby (Chris), his grandson Braxton, stepchildren Audrey (Leonard), Eddy, Ryan and Michael, step grandchildren Ivan, Laylen, Mya, Savanna, Emily, Peyton, Reliey, Antony, Skyler-Marie and Aria, brother Ronnie (Debbie), sisters Valerie (Gordie), Sharon (Jerry), his brother by another mother Derrick (Lisa), unofficially adopted son Michael, Shelby’s mother Colleen and countless other family members and friends.
Bernie was predeceased by his father Earl Dearing, sister Tracey (Dearing) Hiscock, step-son Raymond MacLean, niece Melanie Jessome and grand-niece Katie MacMullin.
Looking back, “here comes trouble” or a phrase a little more colorful seemed to have proceeded Bernie and his entourage Derrick, Ross, Glenn, Blair, Patrick, Grant, Craig, and Terry when they showed up anywhere together. These boys meant the world to Bernie and the family is comforted by the bond they shared, even if it did mean a little extra excitement from time to time.
Bernie didn’t let a day go by without reaching out to his mom, his baby girl and the love of his life Theresa. He loved being the tough guy, the guy boyfriends feared and the guy who could make problems “disappear” if you’d only let him. Yet, with every trip down memory lane, his piercing blue eyes would fill with tears and somehow managed to become even more vibrant. He could sound more like Donald Duck than Donald and always had a song to sing, even if the words were not always appropriate. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his friends and family but nothing like the pride he took in his homemade lasagna. Trust us, he deserved those bragging rights and we are all going to miss the calls asking if we made supper yet. And boy could he love…If you were lucky enough to be loved by Bernie, he made sure you knew it. His bear hugs were intense and his Grampy hugs let Braxton know he was loved with every ounce of his heart and soul.
Arrangements are under the care of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Online condolences may be left for the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com.
Bernie wanted no tears, and no formalities but the one thing he did want was a party. So, in true Bernie style, the party will be held on Thursday, August 22 from 6 – 9 pm (later for the brave ones) at the Northern Yacht Club at 27 Seaview Drive, North Sydney. All are welcome to stop in, raise a glass, tell a story and celebrate the life and shenanigans of Bernie Dearing!
And yes, we can hear him now “there they go, raising the roof on the one day I can’t come”.
“We love you”
