It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that we the family announce the passing of Blair Robert Meating, age 79, on Tuesday November 19, 2019 at his home.

Born in St. George, New Brunswick, November 15, 1940, Blair was the son of the late Donald Norton and Jennie Louise (Clinch) Meating.

Blair graduated from the R.C.M.P. in 1963, during his career he was stationed in many different cities throughout Canada finishing his career teaching identification in Ottawa, Ontario. Blair retired and moved to Cape Breton with his beautiful wife Carol in 1996. Blair was a hard-working and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and man who was adored by everyone. He adored his wife Carol of 54 years who passed away just a few weeks before him.  Finally, they are together again in peace enjoying everlasting life. Blair was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.

Blair is survived by his daughters Sheri (Dale) Trefry, Yarmouth, Lori Ann Meating, North Sydney, Carole Lynn (Stephen) Elgin, Ottawa, his son Stephen (Jessica) Meating, Ottawa, his ten grandchildren whom he treasured with all his heart, Michael, Joshua, Andrea, Matthew, Jenny, Sydney, Jacob and Connor, Laura and Kristen Trefry, three great grandchildren Autumn, Evelyn and Rowan.  Also surviving is his sister Nancy (Meating) Johnson and brother-in-law Frank Johnson, St. George, NB, by his sisters-in-law Maureen Serroul, Bras d’Or, Linda Mizzi, Sault Ste Marie, Paula Naddaf, Montreal, Nancy Naddaf, Toronto, brothers-in-law Kevin Naddaf (Hugh Wakeham), Palm Springs, Gerard Naddaf, Alliston, Ont., also by a number of nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Blair was predeceased by his loving wife Carol Ann Meating in October of this year.

A very special thank you to mom and dad’s best friends Brenda and Tommy Jeffries, for their love and support during this very difficult time and for their friendship and love over the past 23 years.

Visitation for Blair will be held 7-9 p.m.  Saturday December 7, 2019 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A prayer service will be held during the visitation. No funeral service will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the North Sydney Food Bank.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com .
