It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Calvin Broderick “Johnny” Gracie, age 65, surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.   Johnny was born in Sydney Mines on August 16, 1956, he was the son of the late Harold and Eileen (Clinton) Gracie. 

In years gone by Johnny enjoyed fishing, swimming (he was taught by the best) and being outdoors with family.  When he could Johnny enjoyed cutting lawns and doing yard work with his sons.

Johnny is survived by his wife of 43 years Chrissy, his sons Calvin (Renee), North Sydney and Tommy (Crystal-Lee), Fort McMurray, AB; his grandchildren Alexandra “Maggie” (Patrick), Lincoln, Harper “Blue Angel”, Jaxon and a new grandbaby on the way.  He is also survived by his siblings Annette (Jim) Cameron, Wayne, Carolyn (Earl) Burley, Dianne (Gerard) White, Frances Chase, Mary (Alain) Caillouette, Dale, Tina (Michael) King, Martin (Theresa), Shirley (Greg) Deveaux, Blair (Wanda), Jimmie (Donna) and brother-in-law Ricky MacDonald and many nieces and nephews. 

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister Lorraine “Cookie”, brothers Tommy, Ewen, Billy and an infant brother, sisters-in-law Gloria Gracie and Jacqueline MacLean, brothers-in-law Mickey, Billy, Tony, Hector, Dave Chase and Eric MacLean.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who have cared for Johnny over the years.  A special thank you to the staff of 3A at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion shown to Johnny and his family during his final days.

There will be no visitation and a funeral service will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
