Carl Densmore Roberts passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife, family and friends, at the Northside General Hospital in North Sydney.

Carl was born on March 3, 1947, in Sydney Mines, to the late John and Eleanor (Colburn) Roberts.

Carl is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Betty (Hickey) Roberts; his sisters, Marjorie (late Hector) Roberts-Murray, Sheri (Donald) Roberts-Wong. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Darren Roberts (Susan) of Sydney and David Roberts (Monique) of Dartmouth; his grandchildren, Renae and Emma Roberts; and his step-grandchildren, Andrew, Sam, Simon and Georgia Clements.  Carl was warmly welcomed into the large Hickey family and will be fondly remembered by Joan (Gordie), Ola (Melvin), Gladys (Lee), Pearl (the late Ulysse), and the late Cecil (Catherine), Gordie (Brenda), Ann (Bill), Ike (Bev), Joe (Joyce), Mary (Bob), Charlotte (Dan), James (Alice), and Bobby. Besides his parents, Carl was predeceased by his brother George Roberts (Mary) and his sister Carolyn (Roberts) MacDonald. 

Carl began his working life as a miner at Princess Colliery Mine, and later worked as an operator for the Cape Breton Development Corporation (DEVCO) until his retirement. A lifelong lobster fisherman, he loved the outdoors, spending time fishing, hunting and enjoying his cottage in Aberdeen.

Carl was known for his strong work ethic, often working two jobs, and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a proud provider who took great pride in caring for his family and ensuring they were always well looked after.

Betty, Darren and David wish to thank all the family and friends who were by his side over the years and particularly, during his final journey.  

A celebration of life will take place at 11:00 am, Monday, June 29, 2026, at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney, with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow at Lakeside Cemetery.  A reception will follow at Bras d’Or Hall, Church Road.  Memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice.  Online condolences can be left for the family on the tribute wall of the obituary.
