Carmen Douglas Hood

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother and friend, Carmen Douglas Hood, on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, at the age of 60.

Born in Paterson, New Jersey on July 16, 1964, Carmen was the son of the late Donald and Beatrice (Forrest) Hood.  Carmen graduated from nursing school and took care of people outside and inside of his home.  He drove a taxi for Jardines and Crown for many years. He loved to cook and bake and shared it with many others. He loved to go on fishing trips and did work for some lobster fishermen in Point Aconi. Carmen cared about his community and dedicated many years volunteering at the North Sydney Food Bank. Carmen was a very generous and caring man who was always there to help anyone in need.  He would rather go without and give to others. 

Carmen was a family man, a loving husband to his wife Kathy, loved his step-children as his own; Sharlene (Shannon) March and Daniel Allen (Heather) March; he loved and treated all his siblings the same; Donna Redd, Corinne (Albert) Gracie, Nadine (Jimmy) Ambrose, Arlene Carter; a wonderful grandfather to Jeremy and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He especially loved his fur babies.

Carmen is predeceased by his wife Kathy, his parents, his brother Calvin Hood and nephew Douglas Gracie in infancy.

Visitation will be held from 7-9 pm on Saturday, January 4, 2025, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday at the Northside Baptist Church, Main Street, Sydney Mines, with Pastor Jason Homan officiating.  A reception will follow the service in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carmen’s memory can be made to the Northside Baptist Church, North Sydney Foodbank or the NS SPCA Cape Breton Shelter. The service will be live streamed by the Northside Baptist Church.   Online condolences can be left for the family by writing on the tribute wall of the obituary.
