We regret to announce the passing of Carol Anne Capstick (MacLellan), who died on April 27, 2026, at the Halifax Infirmary, at the age of 80.
Born August 31, 1945, in North Sydney, Carol was the daughter of the late Everett and Margaret (Jobe) Capstick.
Carol was a private and independent person who lived much of her life quietly. She had a beautiful singing voice. She was a member of the 86’ Canada Games choir and many church choirs over the years, where she soloed during midnight mass, where congregations became silent in anticipation of her voice. In addition, she blessed many weddings and funerals with her angelic voice, alongside her sidekick, Deta Haley, who played the organ. She had a gift for gardening, and her flowers were appreciated by many. There were many requests over the years to have special event photos taken within. Carol was a gifted artist who took great pride in sharing her work, with many of her paintings purchased and cherished by others. Her talent has been passed down to her granddaughter, Samantha, who created a special rendering of ‘Nona’ in tribute to the service. Carol was a Registered Nurse and worked in Ontario and here in Nova Scotia. In her later years, she worked as a caregiver at the Northside Community Guest Home. She will be missed but never forgotten in the memories and hearts of those who knew her.
Carol is survived by her sons, Donald (Kyla) Horne and Todd Horne, grandchildren Sophie, Samantha, Charles and T.J., sisters Maureen (Ray) Nichol, Judy (Robert) Carter, Lisa (David) Jessome, Cathy Capstick and brother Kevin (Cindy) MacNeil.
Besides her parents, Carol was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Lou and Sheila Capstick, and her brothers, John Gregory, Peter, and Thomas Capstick.
A visitation for Carol will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will take place at 3:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Deacon David Lewis. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Online condolences can be left for the family by writing on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
