Catherine (Kay) Ida Squires

It is with great sadness that we the family of Catherine “Kay” Ida Squires announce her passing at the Northside Community Guest home in North Sydney on Monday, February 20, 2023, at the age of 91, with her family and staff at her side. She was a kind soul, loved her family and she will be greatly missed.

Born in Florence on August 27, 1932 she was the daughter of the late Richard Imrie, from Scotland and Naomi (Doucette) Imrie.  She loved watching wrestling and the news, and talking to people, telling stories and getting the gossip of the day, she loved a great cup of tea with a sweet treat.

Catherine is survived by her sister Betty Gracie, Sydney Mines and Naomi Imrie, North Sydney and many nephews and nieces.

Besides her parents, Catherine was predeceased by her husband William “Willie” Squires, Big Bras d’Or, and also by her sisters Helen Gerrow, Anne (Imrie) MacDonald, Shirley Tobin, and Barbara MacLean.

We would like to give thanks to Corey and Amanda who were always available to lend a helping hand and running errands, the Northside Community Guest Home for taking great care of Catherine the last few years.  Also, we would like to thank the Northside Homemakers in Sydney Mines for their many years of helping Catherine.

Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will take place at a later date under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.  Memorial donations on her behalf can be made towards mental health and Alzheimer Society Nova Scotia.  Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com.
