Catherine Veronica Gouthro

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our sweet mother, Catherine (Kay) Veronica Gouthro, age 90, beloved grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt on Tuesday Aug 13th, 2024 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Born at home in Frenchvale on April 19, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary Ann (Currie) Gouthro. Mom was a lifelong member of Saint Mary's Parish in Frenchvale. Mom was a homemaker and caregiver who enjoyed helping those in need. Mom cared for her parents for many years and she missed them greatly upon their passing. She loved being a grandmother and took great joy in each grandchild's accomplishments. Mom was a member of Saint Mary's parish women's club for many years and helped with fundraising. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed life to the fullest. She also enjoyed square dances, Scottish concerts, and parties with her friends and family members throughout the years.

Mom is survived by her children - Leonard (Audrey) Campbell, Grass Cove, Blaise Campbell, Frenchvale, Kirt (Mary) Campbell, Frenchvale, Blanche Campbell (Paul Yurchesyn), Sydney, and Cordella Campbell, Sydney. Also survived by her grandchildren - Alana, Michael, Bridget, Nicole, Michele, Angela, Breagh, Kristen, and Stefan and her great grandchildren - Carson, Emily, Alex, Autumn, Sawyer, Liam, Alin, Sarah, Maria, Loic, Aiden. She is also survived by her sisters Frankie (Lauchie MacIinnis), Ann McNeil, Hilda (Frank Devereaux), Gertrude Musgrave, May Gouthro as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by brothers - Dan, Greg, John, Tom, Peter (infancy) and sisters Patsy Gouthro, Sarah MacLean, Ann Marie MacNeil, Jenny MacPhee, and Monica MacNeil.

Visitation for Catherine will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Church in Frenchvale with Rev. Victor Ozonoh officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery.
