Catherine (Tootsie) Christina (Gillis) Bond

It is with heavy hearts, that we, the family, announce the passing of Catherine Christina Bond, on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the age of 81.

Born in Frenchvale on July 13, 1942, Tootsie was the daughter of the late Angus and Rowena (Cowan) Gillis.

Tootsie is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Frank, her sons Ralph (Shauna), Greg (Marg), Ronnie (Kim), and Michael (Tammy).  She will be dearly missed by her six grandchildren, John (Cindy), Kathryn, Nick, Heather (Paul), Cody and Riley, as well as four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Gerry MacNeil, sisters-in-law Joyce Simms, Gladys Gracie, Sharon Walsh, and brother-in-law Sid Hardy.  Tootsie also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. 

Besides her parents, Tootsie was predeceased by her only daughter Brenda, son-in-law Curtis, great-grandchildren John Walsh and Roland Dunn. She was also predeceased by her brothers Ashton and Michael Gillis, her sisters Liesl, Helen, Mae and Deloris, mother and father-in-law Wilson and Olive (Bond) Hardy, brothers-in-law Bud, Claude and Wilson Hardy, Mannie Simms, and George, and sister-in-law Joan Hardy.

Tootsie worked for the Northside Homemakers society for over 40 years. In her retirement she enjoyed camping for many years at the Mira Water Park Campground, where she was well known and often the life of the party. Mom was well known and loved, and she will be greatly missed and remembered by the many people met her.

The family wish to thank the ICU surgeons and doctors at QEII Halifax Infirmary for their exceptional care and compassion.
