It is with great sadness we the family announce the passing of Charles Lloyd Aikens, age 74, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney on November 27, 1949, he was the son of the late Roderick Lloyd and Kathleen Rose (MacIsaac) Aikens. Charles was employed for many years with the Public Works department for the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. He was an avid outdoorsman and was a Boone and Crockett scorer for the Nova Scotia Big Game Society. He loved antique cars but his greatest love was his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his son Mark (Sheri), his daughter Tracey (Dana) Collins, his grandchildren Josh, Sydney Rae, Nicholas (Amanda), great-grandchildren Piper and Monty, his special friend Linda Bryden. Also surviving are his brothers, Jack (Colleen), Jim (Marg), Frank (Liz), Rick, his sisters Bea Ryan, Kathy (Paul) Ryan, and Mary Lou (Joe) Blanchard; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Charles was predeceased by his loving wife Linda Aikens, daughter Lisa, nephew Matthew Aikens, brother-in-law Blair MacDonald.
A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney with Deacon David Lewis officiating.
