 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Claudia Marie Penny, age 78, beloved mother, grandmother and aunt on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in North Sydney on June 4, 1943, Claudia was the daughter of the late Claude and Josephine (Rogers) Bartlett.  In her earlier years Claudia served with the Royal Canadian Air Force, later working as a cashier with Sobeys.  For many years she volunteered with the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.  Claudia loved spending time with her grandchildren, she was an animal lover and will be missed by all of her pets.  She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.      

Claudia is survived by her daughter Trina Penny (Dave MacKinnon), Groves Point, her son John Alexander “Sandy” (Shauna), Glace Bay, her four grandchildren Anna, Brandon, Victoria and Sierra and a number of nieces and nephews.  

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Jack, her step-father John Joseph MacInnis, a daughter Mary in infancy, her brothers-in-law Gordon, Mansell, George, Ambrose “Bud” and Alexander Penny, sister-in-law Sadie MacPherson.

There will be no visitation by request.  A private graveside service will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney, at a later date under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to the Liver Foundation.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.
