Clifford Whitty Obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Clifford Joseph Whitty - loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend - on February 14, 2026, days shy of his seventy-second birthday, at the Northside General Hospital after a courageous battle with illness.

Born in Neils Harbour on February 19, 1954, Clifford was the son of the late Russell and Martha (Donovan) Whitty. Clifford was happiest when he was outdoors - whether it was fishing, farming gardening, or lending a helping hand to others. He had a deep appreciation for the simple, honest work of the land and found great satisfaction in building and creating with his hands. A naturally creative and hard-working man, He took pride in everything he did. Above all else, his greatest joy was his children and grandchildren. He cherished every moment he spent with them and found true happiness in watching his family grow. His love for his family was unwavering, and the memories they shared will be treasured forever.

Clifford is survived by his children – Shawna (Brandon) Barink, Stacy “Chazz” Whitty, and Amy (Justin) MacConnell; grandchildren – Bailey, Bryson, Dexter, Jaxon, Jayla, Grace, and Reiley. He is further survived by his siblings – Cornelius (Betty), James (Debbie), Lawrence (Bonnie), Eric, Johnny (Judy), Carolyn (Micky) Barron, Delores (Malcolm) Hawley, and Mable Whitty (Alex Parks).

In addition to his parents, Clifford was predeceased by his sister, Irene Whitty, and his brothers, Eric and William.

The family would like to thank the nurses on 4West at the Northside General Hospital for the care given to Clifford.

A celebration of life for Clifford was held on Tuesday, February 17 at the North Sydney Legion on Archibald Avenue. Online condolences can be left for the family by writing on the tribute wall of the obituary page.
