Colin Shebib Obituary

Colin Troy Shebib

Sydney

Surrounded by family, Colin Troy Shebib, age 49, of Sydney, died peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Sunday, January 2, 2022 after a lengthy battle with Amyloidosis AL and Multiple Myeloma.

Those who knew Colin, knew a quiet man who was kind, thoughtful and generous and he will be missed immensely by family. Born in North Sydney, he was the son of Lawrence Shebib and the late Cora (Marsh) Shebib. He is survived by his wife Tracy, son Jacob, father Lawrence, North Sydney, brother Cavel, Halifax, sister Laureen (Richard) Genter, Sydney, brother-in-law Kenny (Donna), Halifax, and his nieces and nephews, Brennan, Abby, Josh, Jeffrey, Ava and Hayden. Colin was predeceased by his mother Cora and sister Mary Elizabeth in infancy.

Colin was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 1588 and was employed with JonelJim Construction for 25 years. He loved his work and enjoyed showing his son all the projects he worked on over the years.

Although he was diagnosed with an illness with a poor prognosis, Colin believed that how you handle situations helps to determine the outcome. Never complaining throughout his illness, he fought it with strength, bravery and grace. He chose to live each day with a positive attitude and when faced with a new obstacle, his that’s fine, lets just keep moving forward attitude helped his family endure the hardships presented over the past two years.

His family is forever grateful to his healthcare providers, family, friends and coworkers who assisted them during Colin’s illness. Thank you to Dr. Gordon Yeung, Dr. Kate MacInnis and the Hematology team including Kayla, Raylene, Mary and especially Tracy Brown who was always there for him, Tom MacNeil and the staff at the cancer center, Mary Ruth Vassallo-Joseph and the palliative care team, and to his ICU doctors and nurses, especially Tyler, who ensured his final days were comfortable. A special thank you to Jimmy Kehoe, Robert and all his coworkers at JonelJim for their support.

Cremation has taken place.  A private family service will be held at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney, NS.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tom MacNeil Cancer Patient Care Fund.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.
