Cora Shaw Obituary

Cora Vivian Shaw

Little Bras d’Or

With profound sadness, we the family announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, Nana, sister, aunt and friend, Cora Vivian Shaw. Corie passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the age of 65.

Born in North Sydney on August 22, 1958, Corie was the daughter of the late Fredell and Ethel (Hatcher) Robinson. Corie worked in many places during her life, but her most special job was babysitting all of her cherished grand babies. After a long five-year battle with cancer, which she fought with strength and courage, Corie left this world like a warrior.

Corie is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Ronnie Shaw. They truly had the greatest love story there ever was, creating two beautiful and lovely daughters, April (Leonard) of Cheticamp, grandchildren Nathan (Dayna), Paige and Andrea; Kelly of Sydney Mines, grandchildren Ryan (MacKenzie), Hayleigh, Lucas, Aaden and Alex; her siblings Walter, Joe (Diana), Naomi (Lawrence) Boutilier and Janie; sisters-in-law Marg Robinson, Carolyn Marple, Cathy (Paul) and Cheryl (Rich); brother-in-law Greg (Patricia); her two aunts Elsie Apesteguy and Georgia Dowling; uncle Alex Hatcher. Also surviving are her two best friends Laura Cranidage and Sandra Maher, whom she considered bonus sisters.

Besides her parents, Corie was predeceased by her brothers Danny (in infancy), Leo, Fred, Alex, Clayton, Ronnie and Jackie; her sister Bonnie; mother-in-law Florence (Donovan) and father-in-law Angus Wilson. sisters-in-law Cathy Robinson (MacPherson) and Cathy Moses, niece Andrea and our very special angel Jo-Jo. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Jen, Victoria, Laura and Joe for travelling home to spend quality time with Corie.

We also want to send our appreciation to Dr. Saliba, Nurse Practitioner Amanda MacKinnon; two very special nurses Kathy Tanner and Ashley Jessome, who could not do enough for our mom. Thank you to the staff at the Cancer Centre for the five years of compassion and care, and also our gratitude to Dr. Wawer and staff for the exceptional care.

A final message from Corie;

“Thank you to all my family for all the love and support they have shown me through my journey. I love you all forever and always.”

There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass for Corie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Angus MacDougall officiating and under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
