It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel Francis MacKenzie “Bomber” at the age of 74, on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at his residence in Iona.
While he was born in Sydney on October 23, 1950 to the late Daniel and Lucy (Currie) MacKenzie, Danny was raised and lived the great majority of his life in Benacadie West on the family farm. Hard work was a staple of Danny’s life, working on the farm in his younger years and later working as a lumberman cutting pulp in the local woods. In more recent years he became a steadfast caregiver to his mother, Lucy, in the later years of her life. He was a man of simplicity, and was kind and compassionate with all who knew him.
Danny is survived by his sisters Ann MacKenzie and Theresa (Angus) MacRae; his brothers Gerard (Lynn), Joe (Betty), and John, along with many nieces and nephews, and close family friend Kim Mullane.
Besides his parents, Danny was predeceased by sisters Catherine (Albert) MacKinnon and Cassie (Buddy) MacLean; brother Dougal MacKenzie, as well as sister-in-law Jessie MacKinnon.
The family would like to extend a special gratitude to nephew Simon MacKenzie and cousin Peggy MacNeil for all of their love and support in recent years.
A visitation for Danny will be held from 6-9 pm, Monday, May 5, 2025, at St. Colomba Church in Iona. A funeral mass to celebrate Danny’s life will be held the following morning at 11:00 am in the church. Burial will follow in St. Barra Cemetery, Christmas Island, with a reception at the Christmas Island Firehall immediately following the burial. Online condolences can be left for the family by writing on the tribute wall of the obituary page.
