It is with profound sadness that we, the family of David Burchell Ronayne, announce his sudden passing on Wednesday, January 4th, 2023. He passed peacefully at home from natural causes.

David was born in North Sydney on November 13th, 1951. He was the son of the late Joseph and Adele (Nooley) Ronayne. David is survived by his son Brent (Jordan); daughter MaryBeth; granddaughter Kenzie; the mother of his children Elizabeth (Scott) Ronayne; his companion Faye Gardiner; brother Billy and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by brother Joseph and sisters Sharon and Jo Anne.

David dedicated 35 years of service to Marine Atlantic. He was a member of Branch 8 Royal Canadian Legion, Sydney Mines where he played darts and pool, earning plenty of awards. David was an avid car enthusiast. He loved to show and care for his cars, especially his 1971 Corvette. His trophy wall is proof of this passion.

David was very easy to love. His gentle and helpful nature led to many, many lifelong friendships. A natural host, he was at his happiest when everybody else was having fun. He worked hard to ensure his children were able to experience the best of life, from family trips to camping and boating, to even just the silliest of game nights at home. David deeply loved his children and was never shy in expressing his pride in them. His title of Poppy to granddaughter Kenzie was one of his life’s greatest joys.

His family and friends will always love and remember him for the beautiful memories he created.

A visitation for David will be held 2-4 p.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney, followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m. with Deacon David Lewis officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David’s memory to a charity of your choice.
