It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, David Henry Tobin, on February 14, 2026, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born on April 26, 1941, he was the son of the late Mary Ellen (Cordero) and Russell D. Tobin. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, a Third Degree Knight with the Father William Kieley, Knights of Columbus, and also a proud member of Kiwanis Club, North Sydney.
Dad is survived by his sons Blair, Scott (Suzanne), and his special daughter, Lisa, who was always there when needed. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, as well as brothers Ronnie (Sharon), Russell (Kathy), both of Ontario; a special cousin, Holly Cordero; and a special friend, Martha Ross.
He was predeceased by his wife, Leona (Robinson); his son, Darrell; son-in-law Ronnie Roland; sisters Audrey and Gloria Boutilier; brothers Joey, Garfield, and Douglas; and a special uncle, Oscar Cordero.
David was a hardworking man who spent many years employed at the steel plant before his retirement. In his spare time, he greatly enjoyed playing crib and having friendly competition around the card table. He also looked forward to his regular visits to Tim Hortons, where he met daily with friends for coffee, sharing laughs, and conversations. These simple routines brought him great joy and lasting friendships.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 18, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the W. J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 19, at 11am at St. Joseph Church with Father Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall at www.wjdooley.com.
